Portugal Wine Tasting

Fresh back from our last Euro trip, tonight we felt we were transported back to Portugal courtesy of the Wine Club at the Hanover Golf Club where we had some easy-to-drink wines alongside some ambitious pairings - almost felt like back in Porto with the finale dessert and LBV Port. Starting off with Papa Figos Douro Vinho Branco with Fish Fritter - but the chef's description sounds so much better: Bolinhos de Bacalhau, Piri Piri, Tomatillo. This white was dry, minerally, and better with food. Next was Queijo de Azeitão, Grilled Plum, Chestnut - cheese! Paired with a great red blend - favorite plate and wine of the night! Third pairing: Squid, Forbidden Rice, Seville Orange, Lardo - paired with 2019 Vinho Tinto - not everyone at our table was a fan, but mine was great! Fourth pairing: 2018 Vinha Grande with Bitoque, Slow Poached Egg, Spiced Potato, Fennel, Lemon Ash - aka meat & potatoes with a big red - can't go wrong! Finale: Lisbon Chocolate Cake, Macerated Blackberry, Caramelized White Chocolate, Almond - paired with the Late Bottled Vintage Port 2015 -- my second favorite pairing of the night!
