Wineries: Long Island, NY

We took a trip to Long Island Wineries - LongIslandWineries.com and found some really interesting wines. Starting with Mattebella Vineyards where they do table service tastings and offer some perfect pairings with their wines. The 2012 Chardonnay Reserve was excellent and we were so torn on the NV Red Blend, 2009 Old World Blend, 2010 Old World Blend that we had to get a bottle of each. 1 paired with bacon jam & grana and the other paired with fig & gorgonzola were incredible - too bad they didn't sell the jam too! Next we went to Sparkling Pointe Winery and did their Reserve flight - the 2011 Brut and the 2005 Brut Seduction were most excellent - paired with Madeleine goat cheese & feta olives. The two roses were a little too light and sweet for our tastes. Next stop was McCall Wines where they are known for their Pinot Noir and they did not disappoint - we liked the '12 Hillside Pinot Noir over the '12 Pinot Noir. The Cab Franc and Ben's Blend were very good, very smooth as well. The Lenz Winery was beautiful and fun - the '11 Tete a Tete was light and fresh. Really enjoyed the '12 Gold Label Chardonnay, '07 Cab Sauv (big & dry), and '07 Old Vines Merlot (rich & fruity). Dinner @ Alure Chowder House And Oysteria was fantastic - great grilled calamari, lobster, lobster roll, truffle mac n cheese - paired with an excellent '11 Chardonnay from Pellegrini Vineyards and an unimpressive Brut from Martha Clara Vineyards
