Euro Trip: Sorrento & Amalfi

Our trip to Italy ended with a stay in Sorrento and touring the Amalfi Coast - if we ever go back, we’d definitely stay longer and make day trips to each town and island we want to explore spending more time.

Odd thing…they have no beach, like with sand, the docks and rocks are what they call the beach….

Cool thing…they serve “a little something’ with every drink order - I LOVE LITTLE SOMETHINGS…with my drinks!

We planned 3 1/2 days in Sorrento/Amalfi Coast staying at the most beautiful Grand Hotel de la Ville, where we were able to walk to the center of Sorrento’s historic area filled with shops, restaurants, and amazing views. We discovered there are two main areas to tour: upper where we were and lower where the marina and “beach” were located. Steep roads to traverse but found the elevator to come back up. Highly recommend getting a driver to take you to all the Amalfi Coast sites - the driving is very tricky and also allows for everyone to enjoy the wine and obligatory limoncello with every meal!

From the marina area, it is also possible to take a highspeed ferry to Naples, Capri, Procida & Ischia (in Gulf of Napoli) & Castellammare di Stabia. Also possible to get to Amalfi, Positano, Salerno, Seiano & Maiori (in Italy), but the drive to those offers spectacular views and more places to stop for lunch/dinner. We did full-day trips to Capri and Naples by ferry. In Capri, find a boat to take you around the island and swim in a grotto (there is more than just the touristic Blue Grotto!), take a ride to the top of Anacapri if you don’t get car sick (very windy roads).

In Naples, top attractions are the Royal Palace of Naples, Teatro di San Carlo and Castel Nuovo. Explore Naples’ historic center and take a walk along the legendary Spaccanapoli promenade - then eat pizza - seriously the best in all the world and you will not find a bad one - just stay off the main piazzas - mangia!!

Final night was a fabulous dinner at Ristorante Bagni Delfino in the grand marina in Sorrento (reservations are a must!) - a beautiful evening after a spectacular day on the Amalfi Coast - we were given blessed Virgin Mary medals in honor of the St Michaels celebrations and ended with fire works - la vida bella!!
