Greek Wine Tasting: Milos

Greek Trip Milos Day 2 included a tour of the family owned and run Kostantakis Cave Winery near the town of Pollonia – what a wonderful tasting and learning experience provided by “nephew” Georges who is deeply passionate about grape growing and wine making. We tasted all 7 different wines  -  2 dry whites (the Spilia Assyrtiko Monemvasia was my fav and available at a few local Milos restaurants) 1 dry Rose, 1 Roditis Amphora Fermented dry white, 1 Spilia dry red blend, 1 Kostantakis semi-sweet rose, and 1 Retsina dry white. We had the chance to meet the founder and owner Kostas Mallis and his son who was also giving tours. We were treated to some delicious cheeses, olives, vegetables, breadsticks and unique sundried tomato spread (that we had to buy to take home with us!) – note that this was not a pairing, just nice to enjoy with the tasting - which we did!

Afterwards, our tour driver (also Georges) was kind enough to take us to Plaka instead of back to the hotel – where we later paired the Assyritko  with  pizza and pasta at Kyra’s on the recommendation of our waiter, Georges! When we had enough wandering around the Plaka nightlife – it was Georges again who came to get us and back to our hotel – kalinikta to Milos and all the Georges of the day!
